Childlike Faith

Today, I'm reminded of a situation that caused my boys great fear; washing their hair in the shower. I know to some this may seem harmless or even ridiculous to fear washing your hair in the shower! But tell that to a 4 year old and a 7 1/2 year old standing in soapy porcelain shower with their eyes closed as mommy vigorously removes dirt and oil from their dirty hair. As I'm shampooing their hair they're afraid for dear life as they yell "Mommy I can't see!!!" while grasping the air before coming in contact with the soap dish as they use it for leverage. I was so frustrated and I couldn't understand why they would be so terrified with me standing right there! I'm LITERALLY standing right there with my hand on them as I'm attempting to get them clean. I had to reassure them that I would never let them fall and hurt themselves! They were screaming bloody murder and I yelled out "I've got you! Mommy's got you baby!" My youngest said "you've got me mommy?" "Always!" I replied.

Suddenly, God reminded me that I too can often be the same way with Him when He's leading me in a direction I'm unfamiliar with. When I'm afraid and I'm not sure how things will work in my favor and I'm dreading failure and petrified out of my wits He reminds me "Daddy's got you! I'll never drop you or allow you to hurt yourself without healing and restoration being readily available!" I had peace drenched in calm I've never felt before come over me as I stood in the bathroom with my children. Then suddenly, all of my issues and insecurities of the day literally washed away just as the soap suds rinsed down the shower drain. Tears immediately filled my eyes when I allowed myself to bask in God's faithfulness and love for me. I'm still amazed that God would use a situation so common to relay a message of His love to me! Many times, we tend to comb over every intricate detail of our lives attempting to prevent life's calamity from attacking us. We plan and re-plan in great detail what we expect our lives to depict; and sometimes....most times God has different plans that destroy our premeditated blue print. In other words, we trust everything but THE one who created us and knows our beginning and ending. God is totally aware of the pages of our lives we are attempting to re-write due to fear and sometimes rebellion. He knows how hard it is at times for us to surrender but that doesn't exclude us from being obedient. Just as we correct our children when they've behaved unseemly Christ also chastens those He loves (Hebrews 12:16). Christ's reproof always offer an invitation for a fresh start and lighter burdens to carry. No one can predict our future better than the creator of all past present and future! His love is deeper than we will ever imagine! "For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling; I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living." - Psalm 116:8-9 ESV #BrokenWomenWin
